1986 Don Post Studios Catalog

The 1986 Don Post Studios catalog was a simple four page bi-fold catalog. This slimmed down size would mark a new trend in the format of Don Post catalogs that would continue through 1988. Within the '86 catalog, many masks would be marked as "new", however, most of these were in fact re-issues, or variations of classic monster masks from a decade earlier. These re-issues would include: Whambo (Cousin Eerie), Mummy, Alien, Erik, Timberwolf and the Cyclops mask...

New additions to the Don Post family that were introduced in the '86 catalogs included Gastro, The Mask, and all six characters in the "Hoodlums" line...

1984 & 1985 Don Post Studios Crazy Craniums Catalogs

Greetings Creeps! As we move along through the 80's Don Post Studios catalogs, 1985 is up next. With that, the full 1985 mask catalog was posted here just a few weeks ago and can be found in two parts: Part 1 | Part 2 . While I'm putting the final touches on the 1986 catalog, here are a couple of catalog oddities from Don Post Studios... the "Crazy Cranium" catalogs. Check back tomorrow for the '86 mask catalog!
While these have nothing to do with the world of monster masks, they are fun to browse through at least once, and serve to remind us how crazy the 80's really were...

1984 Don Post Studios Catalog

As the middle of the decade approached, the folks at Don Post Studios decided to change up the look of their catalogs. The 1984 Don Post Studios catalog would be the first of it's kind to feature a single mask on prominently on it's cover. The mask that held the distinction was the yellow hooded horror "Plague"...

1984 line-up featured several new additions including the Star Wars "Return of the Jedi" Masks...

Don Post Return of the Jedi Masks, Wicket, Emperor, Yoda, Admiral Ackbar,
Gamorrean Guard, Nien Numb
In addition, two full new lines of masks would be added. First, the "Maskerage" line, which were simple face masks mostly of the comedic variety. Personally, I love the "Joker" mask. Super creepy...

"Party Pleasers" was the second new line. Again, not the typical scary monster masks that Don Post Studios had long been famous for creating. Each of these would feature the term "La Goon" as part of their name...

The Medusa mask would be rejuvenated in full color and no longer in the traditional solid gold paint scheme of the previous two catalogs...

Finally, two new hooded half masks would be added to the 960 series, Rottkin and Plague...

1983 Don Post Make Up Catalog

Greetings Creeps, and happy Friday to you! As we move along through the 80's Don Post Studios catalogs, 1983 is up next. Now, the full 1983 mask catalog was posted here late last year and can be found in two parts: Part 1 | Part 2 along with the 1983 Catalog Indexing Guide.

While I'm wrapping up the post for the 1984 catalog, here's a little nugget to hold you over... the 1983 Cast of Characters Make-Up catalog. The Cast of Characters Hollywood Makeup line included full character Make-Up Kits, Skin Effects (Liquid Latex), Nails, Hair Fibers, Make-up, and Noses. My personal favorite part of the catalog is the photo on page three of the Lugosi Dracula sporting a clown nose, and the Karloff Mad Doctor wearing a witch nose...

1982 Don Post Catalog

"New" is definitely the driving theme of the 1982 line-up. Several of the masks that debuted here would remain in the line-up for most of the decade and would become the Don Post classics of the 80's.

Some of these new masks include the 800 Line Razooly and Peter...

The entire 950 line (which consisted of 6 masks) were introduced in the 82 catalog. These were obviously inspired and designed to compete with the Be Something Studios masks being released at the time...

Other newbies included the 900 line Medusa, Big Top, Aesop, and Fearless Leader...

The 1000 line Merlin, Wizard, Quasimodo, Neanderthal, green Phantom, 1100 line Werewolf and Yeti, 2000 line Sygenor were also new additions to the line-up...

1981 Don Post Studios Catalog

Don Post Studios transitioned from the 70's into the 80's rather seamlessly. In fact, the 1981 Don Post Studios catalog still featured many of the late 70's characters from the era many collectors feel was the studios most creative period. New additions to the Don Post Studios line-up in 1981 included characters such as Digger, Tank, Reptilla, a new 1000 Line Gorilla and Werewolf. As well as the Empire Strikes Back Yoda and Ugnaught. Here's a glimpse of the catalog shots of the new additions to the 1981 Don Post Studios line-up in no specific order...

And now on to the full page catalog scans. I'll compile a PDF of the pages and post a link here later in the week.
