Teenage Werewolf and Monster on Campus Masks

Here's another flyer that arrived in the mail in the mid to late '90's from David and Laura Lady's Horror Hotel. This one was a double bill featuring the Laura Lady's "Teenage Werewolf" and Carol Hicks' "Monster on Campus"  deluxe display heads...

1991 Distortions Catalog

Fall 1991 was a special time. I had just begun my senior year in high school when we decided to take our annual Halloween party to the next level and built a full garage haunt. I actively began seeking out mask and prop catalogs. Most came in the form of black and white facsimiles. Almost every one contained pages from this Distortions catalog. At the time, I definitely preferred Distortions masks over any other. First off, they were far scarier than Don Post masks. And second, they had sculpted eyes! This was a huge consideration when buying masks to use in the haunt.

I put a lot of wear and tear on this catalog and poured several hours of my life flipping through it's pages staring at the masks and imagining their place in our haunt. As always, I've compiled a PDF of the catalog, just right click here and save yourself a copy, or if you prefer here are the catalog pages...

1993 Death Studios Mask Ad

Yesterday was one of those great days to be a fan of rubber monster masks.  I spent the day hanging out at Darkside Studios were Paul and myself reminisced about the past, telling stories, and looking at old mask photos and ads. This '93 Death Studios ad is one that we both agreed had a big impact on us both as collectors. For Paul, he remembers really being struck by the Cerebus, Swamp Witch and London After Midnight. I too was (and still am) a big fan of the three. Personally, I remember really being blown away by the Boogeyman and Gothic Demon too...

Be Something Studios Masks- Books of Blood Covers

It's always good to see a Be Something Studios mask pop up in random places. It's even better to see three BSS masks! Still better yet... when they appear on Clive Barker's breakthrough novels the Books of Blood. Volume One featured the BSS "Undead" mask, Volume Two featured "Dead On Arrival", and Volume Three features a devil which I am completely unfamiliar with...

2005 Night Owl Production Ads

From the same magazine issue as yesterday's post, here's a pair of Night Owl ads from 2005. The Night Owl Ghoul himself was kind enough to respond to a query yesterday and verified the names of this creepy quintet... From left to right: Shock Zombie, Vengeance, Mutant, Sackopath, and Haggard Hank.

Don Post Hollywood Horrors Mask Photos

Several hi-res photos of the Don Post Studios Hollywood Horror masks series turned up earlier this year on the Ebay. These beautiful and obscure masks went into production back in 1963, and pre-date the famous "Calendar" mask series. For more info on these check out the Hollywood Horrors Fact Sheet at the Rubber Room.

1984 Mario Chiodo Mask Ad

The Mario Chiodo monster mask ad was scanned from August 1984 issue of Fango. These were the pre-Illusive Concept days, when the masks were produced under the name of MAC Studios. Despite the unique character that is evident in each mask, they are simply named "Mask A", B and C in the ad.

1961 Collegeville Catalog Pages

A small sampling of the 1961 Collegeville Costumes Catalog is the subject of today's post. In fact, the cover is really the highlight here, as it features a gorgeous vintage illustration that captures the essence of everything that is good about Halloween. It's funny how little page space is dedicated to the costume photographs compared to later catalogs...

Spook House Ride - Vintage Topstone Monster Masks

I mentioned late last month that I had sent away for the Monsters Crash the Pajama Party DVD. The disc is jammed packed with material, and the majority of it is pure Halloween gold!

I pulled a few short videos from the disc to share this week that contains some genuine vintage monster mask goodness. First up, this trip through a spook house ride. You'd be hard pressed to find video of Topstone masks that look this good...
